Oscar's 2014 red carpet recap

And so after all the build up, the Oscars have finally arrived! Here's a short photo summary of the best dressed - because why would I want to look at the worst looks again?? Spoiler alert for Lupita fans: she did not make it in my list. Not that she looked bad (according to twitter, she looks like Cinderella actually!), but after her red Ralph Lauren A+ moment I was expecting something more than a flowy gown. So, let's get down to it!

Anne Hathaway

Amy Adams
These two beauties top my list of best dressed of the night. And here's the catch..they're both in Gucci! Never thought I'd say this but..is Gucci truly back? I mean they were the only half-innovative non princes-like dresses of the night! Liking this minimal and edgier attitude a lot

Yes Kate Hudson! Yes this Versace borderline-bridal dress! One of the very few to take a fashion risk tonight with the white shiny fabric choice, fully matching accessories AND (last but not least) very dangerous shoulder pads and back draped cape. And it works! So yes to everything going on with her look because this was probably the most exciting/unexpected dress I've seen walk down that carpet tonight!

Cate Blanchett in Armani, being a dreamy and sophisticated vision - as she always is.

White and nude palettes have been the most popular choices for tonight's fashion and it's no exception for Portia de Rossi - but, she does it flawlessly. With no unnecessary volumes and just the right proportions and print placements I think she kills it in this Naeem Khan dress. Newcomers, learn a trick or two from this woman please!

ll admit the first sight of Anna Kendrick in J. Mendel left me a bit indifferent, but then that back..!! That's all.

Jennifer Lawrence in Dior. Surprise? No. Success? Yes. The combed back hair and backwards necklace completes the whole thing and gives it a bit more of her 'cool'.

Julia Roberts in Givenchy. This woman is perfect. Every year she looks better and smiles better (yes, one of the few intrepid attendees to smile on the photocall!)

And to finish off here's Jared Leto (in YSL) just becausewhy!

Bearing in mind that just as Ellen said, Jared's the most beautiful and well dressed of the night, who's your favourite otherwise?

Furrrrpect outerwear

I loved fur (ideally faux) this afternoon whilst I was writing the second instalment on MBFWM and, surprise!, I still do now come the early evening. Luckily, fur trims are once again a trend not only on the recent AW '14 runways but also on the streets! I'll leave my collection reviews for another time since I'm still digesting London and trying not to suffocate on the print craziness happening in Milan atm, so let's have a look at the brave ladies that make the streets -and the Internet- a better, cosier place.

I hope these wonderful pieces make you feel not so bad about the imminent truth that winter time won't be over anytime soon for most of us!

And PLEASE let's not forget these two looks below which could make any problem in the entire wide world instantly disappear. Ok, maybe not actually disappear...but you can hide your 1.troubles 2.first aid kit 3.probably a group of 4-6 friends, ALL of it under your fluffy pastel coat, which is pretty great if you ask me!

Which one are you drooling over the most? X

Street style II at MBFWM

Here is some more of the street style spotted around Madrid's fashion week a few days ago. Except in this little series there is a very special honorary guest: DENIM! Denim denim denim. You can love it or hate it, but still can't ignore that it's been the biggest style comeback of the past few seasons!

..Is this woman killing it or what?! Her embellished leather jacket becomes nearly mute next to her perfect-in-their-imperfections boyfriend jeans. So much win.

These two friends (who clearly know how to pose for a street style picture a lot better than I do) are nailing their proportions too. The light blue mom jeans all of a sudden become hyper feminine with the stilettos and the clutch, and thou shall not fear breaking up your proportions at the ankle and waist anymore! Why? Because it's easily fixable with a mid length coat over your shoulders! There you have it, the perfect way to manipulate the eye with a handful of wardrobe basic staples whilst looking like you own the FROW.

Last but not least, here is this absolute GEM of a look.

If you -like me- tend to end up looking somewhat edgy instead of sharp because you suffer an undiagnosed paranoia of leaving the house overdressed, I hope you love this girl as much as I do. First of all she must have been the only attendee not swearing at the cold temperatures before going into the shows. Also (this is really important to point out) she has not one but TWO types of fur happening here. And the layering*. Can we all agree that good style is strongly dependant on how to layer properly without looking like a panicky passenger at the Easy Jet queue? Yes, thank you, that's what I thought.

Happy Sunday! x

*I can't even tell where the black sleeves are coming from! This girl is REALLY good at layering!

Street style I at MBFWM

If you've never blogged, I feel you. If you've never been sure whether it should be a curated news feed, a random collection of online entry diaries, or just a different platform for instagram material - hey, I hear you too. But maybe because I want to try all of the above or maybe because Sara from http://www.hellothemushroom.com/ has such an addictive blog that it makes me want to give it a go, here it is! (Or maybe just because why?)
Either way, here are a few street style shots from out and about the fashion week venue here in Madrid snapped last week. If you want to see more of what I shot head over to http://www.hellothemushroom.com/2014/02/21/madrid-fashion-week-street-style-by-sol-jaureguibeitia/ (and take the chance to snoop around the rest of the site!)

 Andrea & Marta (Above, right)
Irene & Mabel (Above) - http://tobefashionn.blogspot.com.es/..in hindsight all of these pictures have quite a clear rock and roll vibe.. The big question mark is, though, was this the general look happening outside FW 14 or am I just drawn to shoot those who aren't scared of monochrome? I guess we'll never know, but all suggestions and speculations are welcome!
Until next time x
